Charles and Derek Rettie own Ashley House Residential Home. Charles and his late wife Ruth ran private homes for the elderly for 8 years in Aberdeen and Ballater, before returning to Aberdeen in 1971 to develop Ashley House into a popular, successful private hotel. Ruth Rettie was a trained Registered General Nurse, and Charles Rettie is an experienced cook/caterer. Derek Rettie has an Honours Degree in Business Studies and a Postgraduate Diploma in Community Care, both from The Robert Gordon University. Also in 2017, he completed an SVQ Level 4 in Social Services and Health Care. Derek Rettie is the Manager of the Home and registered with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC).

The building has its own grounds and sheltered garden. A chairlift
