Staffing

There is 24 hour staffing with supporting staff chosen for their aptitude and attitude, as much as their experience. Our Deputy Manager has a Level 3 SVQ in care and is registered with the SSSC. We have a waking care assistant on duty throughout the night. Our Head Care Assistant has an HNC in Social Care. Other staff members undertake various training courses, such as; SVQ training, fire safety, food hygiene and manual handling.

Nutritional Assessment

We use the MUST Screening Tool to identify malnutrition early so as to maximise Residents health and wellbeing. This is carried out monthly in accordance with the screening tool. We have regular contact with Community Dietiticans.

Residents

Residents are welcome to bring small furniture pieces and other possessions. Residents usually choose to bring a portable television for their room. Private telephones may be installed at the residents' expense, although all rooms are fitted with telephone points. There are no visiting restrictions, and there is ample car parking facilities to the front. Residents are also encouraged to retain friendships, hobbies and interests, whenever possible.

Activities

Despite being a small care home without a dedicated Activities Coordinator, Ashley House still provides a variety of engaging activities and entertainment for its residents. Therapet visits can be incredibly beneficial for residents' emotional well-being, providing companionship and joy. Hosting singers and bands periodically adds excitement and variety to residents' routines, while in-house activities such as movies and games offer opportunities for socialisation and enjoyment within the Home.

Even without a dedicated coordinator, Ashley House provides a stimulating and enriching environment for its residents. These activities not only provide entertainment but also contribute to residents' overall quality of life by fostering social connections, cognitive stimulation, and emotional well-being.

Chiropody

We have a Private Foot Care Practitioner who visits the Home periodically.  If you need a Private Podiatrist this can be arranged and they can undertake a Home visit.  Some Residents still have NHS Podiatry appointments, but you would need to attend Airyhall Clinic for these.

Hairdresser

Ashley House has its own hairdresser who visits on a weekly basis. Current charges are available on request.

Pets

We welcome pets as visitors only.

Insurance

Residents' effects are insured for £500 per person, however Residents are welcome to take out further insurance cover should they wish.

General Practitioner (GP)

Residents are welcome to continue with their own GP, however should this not be possible due to locality, we can recommend a GP for you. We are now aligned to Newburn Medical Practice - www.newburnhc.co.uk who would happily register you at their Practice.

Newspapers

A complimentary daily newspaper is provided.
